“The New Freakshow” is an artwork commissioned by Teatros del Canal in Madrid.
The piece presents holographic performers whose movements synchronize with an original score. Their bodies are algorithmically contorted and reshaped in real time, as artificial intelligence distorts and reinterprets their physical presence.
By merging the 19th-century theatrical illusion of Pepper’s Ghost with contemporary AI systems and audio reactivity, Geoffrey Lillemon constructs a performance that is simultaneously spectral and technologically visceral, a contemporary séance staged through code.
The AI's unpredictability, paired with the rhythm of the music, breathes life into the holograms, creating a presence that is almost alive, yet trapped in a machine purgatory a haunting form of voyeurism that takes the shape of theater.
